CHATURVIMSATI-MURTI

Twenty-four classical forms of Vishnu which are distinguished from each other mainly by the arrangement of the four characteristic weapons of Vishnu, viz.,  conch (Samkha), discus (Chakra), mace (gada) and lotus (Padma). Lotus symbolizes creation, discus preservation, and mace- dissolution and conch emancipation of the soul from bondage.
It is believed that each of the letters of the celebrated Gayatri hymn is represented by one of the twenty four forms of Vishnu.
